MSC Banner Diaries From Analog Mars

In September of 2021, MSC Mars Engineering Developer Jin Sing Sia went on the journey of a lifetime. After numerous delays due to the global pandemic, he found his way into the desert in pursuit of a dream.

As a member of Mars Desert Research Station crew 228, Jin would spend 2 weeks in a space analog environment in pursuit of knowledge and experience that will guide him (and all of us) on the path to Mars. By sharing a series of diary entries, Jin brought us along on this thrilling and sometimes difficult voyage.

Jess has been an aspiring space explorer for as long as she can remember. She was inspired by The Case for Mars to dedicate her life to landing explorers on the red planet, completing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo and a master's degree in electrical engineering and planetary sciences at Western University. A Malaysian citizen by birth, she traveled on her own to Canada at the age of 15 to get closer to the cutting edge of the space industry. Jess is also an avid environmentalist, human rights activist, and die-hard science fiction lover. She was part of a simulated Mars mission at the Mars Desert Research Station as part of Crew 228 (mdrs228.com). With the Mars Society of Canada, she applied her enthusiasm for space exploration and growing command of engineering principles to research and development projects, writing for the website, and more. As part of a core group of volunteers, she supported MSC activities and operations.
